As priests of the Diocese of Buea draw closer to the conclusion of their annual retreat for 2026, the Retreat Master, Rev. Fr. Michael Suh Neba, on Thursday, 8 October 2026, reminded them that the most salvific action of a priest is the celebration of the Holy Mass.
Reflecting on the mystery of the Eucharist, the Retreat Master reminded the priests that none of them is worthy of the Eucharist, either as recipients or as ministers. He emphasised that it is through God’s mercy and grace that those chosen to serve as priests are given the privilege of celebrating and receiving the Eucharist. He therefore encouraged the priests to create sufficient time to invite Jesus into the deepest depths of their souls and actions, opening themselves fully to the healing and transforming mercy of God.

Reflecting on Christ’s self-giving sacrifice for humanity, Fr. Michael noted that the priest is given the profound privilege of reenacting sacramentally the sacrifice of Christ on Calvary through the celebration of the Holy Mass. He reminded the priests that every celebration of the Eucharist should therefore be approached with humility, reverence and a deep awareness of the mystery they are privileged to celebrate.
The Retreat Master further reminded the priests that whenever they raise Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, they also raise themselves with Him. He encouraged them to see their priestly ministry as a continual participation in Christ’s self-offering, allowing the Eucharist to transform their lives and deepen their union with God.
