The first French-language Mass of the ongoing Buea Diocesan Synod was celebrated on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the Chapel of the Bishop Pius Awa Memorial Pastoral Centre. The Mass was presided over by Bishop Michael Miabesue Bibi, while the homily was delivered by Rev. Fr. Kenneth Mbinkar.
In his reflection, Fr. Mbinkar described the Church as a hospital for the spiritually sick, telling delegates: “When I see you, I see patients.” He reminded them that prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are essential spiritual prescriptions for every Christian.

Drawing inspiration from Elijah and Elisha, he challenged participants to become modern-day prophets in a post-synodal Diocese of Buea, asking: “Where are the Elijahs of God today?”
The priest also lamented the decline of fasting, noting that it transforms the believer rather than God, while stressing that almsgiving is necessary to support the mission and growth of the local Church. “The Hail Mary and Our Father are not currencies,” he remarked.
