The Holy Father acknowledged Cameroon’s rich diversity of cultures and traditions, describing it as a treasure capable of strengthening national unity rather than dividing the nation. He emphasized that peace must be built on fraternity and mutual respect.

Pope Leo XVI
Addressing the ongoing crisis in the Northwest, Southwest, and Far North regions, the Pope expressed deep sorrow for the suffering caused by violence—lives lost, families displaced, children deprived of education, and young people left without hope. He reminded leaders that behind every statistic are real human faces and broken dreams.
The Pope strongly condemned the logic of war and called for what he described as a “disarmed and disarming peace”—a peace not founded on fear, threats, or weapons, but one rooted in love, justice, trust, and empathy. He insisted that peace must not remain a slogan, but must become a concrete lifestyle and institutional commitment.
He stressed that peace cannot be imposed by decree, but must be welcomed and patiently built through collective effort. He placed special responsibility on civil authorities, urging them to govern as servants of the people, guided by compassion and commitment to the common good.
Pope Leo XIV highlighted the essential role of civil society—including women, youth groups, NGOs, religious and traditional leaders—as key actors in preventing conflict, supporting victims, and fostering dialogue. He particularly praised women as tireless builders of peace and called for their greater inclusion in decision-making processes.

The Holy Father also insisted that justice and peace cannot thrive where corruption dominates, urging leaders to break the chains of corruption and uphold transparency, credible institutions, and respect for the rule of law. He reminded them that security must always be pursued with respect for human rights and protection of the vulnerable.
Finally, the Pope encouraged investment in young people through education, employment, and entrepreneurship, describing this as a strategic choice for peace. He warned that unemployment and exclusion fuel frustration and violence, while opportunity and inclusion build stability.
In conclusion, Pope Leo XIV called on all Cameroonians; leaders and citizens, Christians and non-Christians—to unite in building a future where dialogue replaces violence, justice defeats corruption, and peace becomes the foundation of national life.
