Shepherd in the Creeks: Bishop Michael Bibi’s Pastoral Visit to Bopula
In a profound demonstration of servant leadership and pastoral communion, the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese of Buea, His Lordship Bishop Michael Bibi, journeyed to the water-locked community of the Saint John Mission Station in Bopula, Modeka Creeks, on Saturday, March 28th, 2026.

The visit, set against the reflective backdrop of the Lenten season, began with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration. For the faithful of Bopula, the Bishop’s arrival was more than a formal engagement; it was a symbolic journey in Christ, sharing in the unique joys and geographic challenges faced by this riverine community.

During his homily, Bishop Bibi drew parallels between the daily perseverance of the Bopula people and the Passion of Christ. He challenged the congregation to remain steadfast in the face of life’s trials, urging them to:
Shun all urges to sin and behaviors that do not glorify God.
Stand firm in faith, mirroring the resilience of their Savior.
Commit to a life of holiness, especially as the Church prepares for the mysteries of Easter.
Soldiers of Christ.

A pivotal highlight of the pastoral visit was the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Ten young Christians stood before the Prelate to receive the seal of the Holy Spirit.
By laying on hands and anointing with Sacred Chrism, Bishop Bibi marked the fullness of their Christian initiation. These ten individuals were charged to go forth as “Soldiers of Christ,” equipped with the spiritual gifts necessary to defend the faith and serve as courageous witnesses in the creeks and beyond.

The faithful expressed a deepened commitment to their parish life, vowing to serve Christ with renewed vigor and to carry the light of the Gospel into every corner of the Modeka Creeks.
