On Sunday, March 29, the faithful of the Diocese of Buea gathered in significant numbers at the Regina Pacis Cathedral in Small Soppo to officially commence the Holy Week celebrations.

The ceremony was presided over by the Local Ordinary of the Diocese of Buea, His Lordship Michael Bibi, who inaugurated the event with the solemn blessing of palms. Following this traditional rite, the congregation moved into the celebration of the Holy Mass, marking the beginning of a spiritual journey through the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Christ, which serves as the heart of the Christian faith and the foundation of the Lord’s Paschal Mystery.

During his homily, Bishop Michael Bibi delivered a powerful message to the Christians in attendance, challenging them to intensify their prayer lives as they entered this sacred season. He encouraged the faithful to engage in deep self-reflection, urging them to look inward and make necessary amends in their lives. The prelate also took the opportunity to remind the assembly of the abundant blessings and mercies promised to those who faithfully journey with Christ through His passion.

The celebration was further enriched by the active participation of the diocesan youth, who joined the congregation to conclude their World Youth Day activities. Their presence added a vibrant and special touch to the liturgy as they held their palms high in the air. The atmosphere within the Cathedral was filled with devotion as the voices of the young and old alike echoed the joyful proclamation of “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
