CUIB Douala Campus Renews Commitment to Spiritual Integrity and Moral Leadership
The Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB) Douala Campus recently marked a significant milestone in its spiritual calendar, observing the 2026 Lenten Recollection at St. Louis Parish, Bonaberi. This solemn gathering, held during Holy Week, served as a profound period of reflection and renewal for the entire university community. The event commenced with the Stations of the Cross, a poignant reminder of Christ’s sacrifice, setting a contemplative tone for the day’s proceedings. By integrating traditional liturgy with contemporary spiritual guidance, the campus reaffirmed its dedication to nurturing not just academic excellence, but the soul of every student and staff member.
The highlight of the recollection was the stirring address by guest speaker Rev. Fr. Tata Charles, who issued a clarion call for spiritual integrity. Addressing a captivated audience of students and faculty, Fr. Tata emphasized that as members of a Catholic institution, they are held to a higher standard of conduct by a society seeking genuine moral leadership. He reminded students that Christ remains their “rock” in times of trouble and urged them to be living examples of the university’s values. His message was one of active engagement, calling on the community to embrace volunteerism and treat every individual with unwavering kindness, regardless of their social standing.
In an era where social pressures often normalize ethical compromises, Fr. Tata provided a powerful counter-narrative, encouraging the CUIB community to stand firm in their faith. He challenged the faculty and staff to lead by example, upholding the institutional values handed down by the Church. “Don’t be afraid to stand for the right thing,” he remarked, acknowledging the pressures of the modern world while highlighting the transformative power of a life rooted in Christ. This exhortation to moral courage resonated deeply, reminding attendees that their identity as “Catholic University students” carries a responsibility to be a light in their respective environments.

The day concluded with moments of profound sacramental grace, including a dedicated time for Confession and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Coordinated by Campus Minister Rev. Fr. Tapang Marious, the event offered a holistic spiritual experience that culminated in Fr. Tata’s homily, urging all to use the Lenten season for true heart-centered conversion. Dr. Ngamgoum Eric, Director of the CUIB Douala Campus, closed the event by expressing his gratitude to the clergy and the university community. This recollection was not merely an event, but a spiritual refueling, empowering the CUIB family to “carry their cross” and represent the face of Christ in their academic and professional journeys.
