
The newly elected executive of the Cameroon Journalists Trade Union (CJTU) Southwest Chapter paid a courtesy visit to His Lordship Michael Bibi, Bishop of the Diocese of Buea, on Thursday, August 28th, 2025. The strategic meeting, led by President Mr. Agbor Emile, provided a five-member delegation the opportunity to introduce the new CJTU Southwest executive team and discuss areas of common interest in promoting truth, peace, and ethical journalism.

The CJTU is dedicated to advocating for press freedom, accountability, ethical principles, the welfare of journalists, and the capacity building of journalists. Its efforts emphasize social justice, human dignity, and peace, among other core values.

During the meeting, the collaboration with the Bishop of Buea, who is also the Proprietor of Divine Mercy Radio Television (DMRTV), was highlighted by the President of CJTU, expressing a shared hope that the voices of the marginalized will be heard.
In response, the Chief Shepherd encouraged the team and commended the essential work they are undertaking. He acknowledged the challenges that journalists may face in their roles and emphasized that communication is an essential tool in society. The church advocates for press freedom, stressing that it should be exercised with truth and guided principles, ensuring it does not create tensions or harm but instead promotes peace. The Bishop further encouraged the team to engage in training seminars that consider the current needs of young journalists. The local ordinary assured them of his prayers as they carry on their responsibilities.

Founded in 2006, the CJTU has a mission to advocate for press freedom and the rights of journalists. The trade union is active in all ten regions of Cameroon.
