
The Catholic education family of the Diocese of Buea gathered at the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral on August 27th 2025 for a thanksgiving Mass in celebration of the successes achieved in the recently concluded academic year. The Eucharistic celebration, presided over by Bishop Michael Bibi, was also to seek God’s guidance and blessings for pupils, students, teachers, parents, and all stakeholders as they embark on the new 2025/2026 academic year.
During the celebration of the Mass with teachers from the Diocese of Buea, the Chief Shepherd Bishop Michael Bibi expressed gratitude to the Education Secretary, Rev. Fr. Vincent Mesue, as well as to principals, teachers, accountants, bursars, and all members of the Catholic education family. He acknowledged their support in achieving the successes within the Diocese and commended their sacrifices and dedication in shaping morally and intellectually upright pupils and students entrusted to Catholic institutions.
The local ordinance further acknowledged the difficulties teachers face, particularly in the context of the ongoing Anglophone crisis which has negatively affected education. He further emphasized that education remains a fundamental human right, essential for all children. He charged teachers with the responsibility of providing nurturing care, akin to parental guidance, to the children under their tutelage. The Bishop urged educators to embody the values they teach, maintaining integrity and consistency in their actions, even amidst challenges. “You must be living witnesses to the principles you impart.”
On behalf of the teaching community, Mr. Tanjua Willibroad extended heartfelt gratitude to Bishop Michael Bibi for his unwavering commitment to advancing education within the Diocese of Buea. He praised the Bishop’s tireless efforts and interventions, which have significantly contributed to the growth and development of Catholic education in the Diocese. Mr. Tanjua described the initiative to hold a Mass for teachers as a testament to the Bishop’s divine inspiration.

TEACHERS RECEIVING AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE
Notably, the diocese of Buea recorded remarkable results with 7 out of 12 schools scoring 200% in the General Certificate of Education ( GCE ). Additionally, 8 students from catholic secondary schools featured on the national honor roll, a testament to the excellence of Buea Diocesan schools.

The ceremony culminated in the presentation of awards to schools that excelled in the recently concluded General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations, recognizing their outstanding academic achievements.
