Prayer, Dialogue, and Discernment: Buea Synod Ends with Hope for the Church’s Mission
The Diocese of Buea concluded six days of prayer, dialogue, and discernment on 19th June 2026, bringing together priests, religious, and lay faithful from across all parishes and deaneries. From 14th June, participants gathered at the Pastoral Center in Molyko to reflect on the life and mission of the local Church. Through plenary sessions, group discussions, and moments of prayer, they examined the challenges and opportunities facing the Diocese, listening to one another in a spirit of communion and shared responsibility for the Gospel.

The Synod was both a time of deep reflection and practical planning. Participants reviewed the state of pastoral work, youth formation, family life, education, healthcare, and parish structures, seeking ways to strengthen the Church’s presence and impact in communities. Rev. Fr. Ernest Neba, Synod Coordinator, reminded delegates that they were called to return to their parishes as ambassadors of the Synod, carrying forward its spirit of listening, reconciliation, and mission. On the final day, the Steering Committee for Missio Buea also met to review projects submitted by parishes and to shape a template that would guide future initiatives aimed at making the Church’s mission visible through concrete action.

With the work sessions completed, the Synod moved to its closing with a solemn Holy Mass presided over by Bishop Michael Bibi.

In this moment of thanksgiving, the Bishop received the reflections and recommendations gathered over the six days.

These will now be studied and shaped into resolutions and pastoral directives to guide the future growth of the Diocese. The conclusion of the Synod therefore marks not an end, but the beginning of a new phase in which the insights of the people of God will be translated into concrete steps for evangelization and service, so that the Church in Buea may continue to proclaim the Gospel with renewed zeal and bear witness through both word and action.
