
March 23, 2026 ; With exactly three weeks to go before the arrival of Pope Leo XIV, the Catholic hierarchy in Cameroon has shifted into high gear. This Monday, the country’s Bishops gathered for a pivotal working session at the headquarters of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon (NECC) in Mvolyé, Yaounde, to finalize the logistics of what is being described as a historic “pilgrimage of peace.”

Presided over by His Grace Andrew Fuanya Nkea, Archbishop of Bamenda and President of NECC, the meeting served as a comprehensive stress test for the preparations. The Bishops reviewed security protocols, liturgical arrangements, and communication strategies intended to reach every corner of the nation’s 26 Dioceses.

The Apostolic Visit, scheduled from April 15 to 18, 2026, marks the second stop of the Pope’s four-nation African tour.
In Yaounde on April 15, the Pontiff will be received at the Unity Palace by the Head of State and meet with the diplomatic corps. In Bamenda, April 16, the Pope will visit the North West Region to hold a Meeting for Peace at St. Joseph’s Metropolitan Cathedral, offering a message of hope to a population affected by years of socio-political crisis.
on April 17, the economic capital Douala will host meetings with the youth and representatives of civil society.
on April 18, a grand farewell Mass is expected to draw hundreds of thousands to the Yaounde-Ville Airport before he departs.
