What Kind of Diocese Do We Want After 75 Years? — A Central Question at Day Two of the Buea Diocesan Pastoral and Economic Week
The question “After 75 years, what kind of Diocese do we want in Buea?” formed the core theme of discussions on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, as clergy, religious, catechists, and members of the Diocesan Pastoral Council gathered at the Bishop Pius Awa Memorial Pastoral Centre for Day Two of the week-long Buea Diocesan Pastoral and Economic Week.
In his opening remarks, the Bishop of Buea, His Lordship Michael Bibi, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their sacrifices and unwavering dedication to the service of God’s people. He explained that the meeting, held within the framework of the Diocesan Pastoral Week, was aimed at evaluating the past pastoral year and mapping out strategies for the new pastoral year.

Bishop Bibi noted that the theme of the Pastoral Week, “Synodality,” is both timely and significant, especially as the Diocese prepares for its Diocesan Synod scheduled for May 2026. He revealed that the Pastoral Formation Team proposed synodality as the theme for this year’s Pastoral Week, emphasizing that it means working together and journeying together as the People of God.
The Bishop encouraged participants to reflect deeply on the three pillars of synodality—Communion, Participation, and Mission—which he described as essential guides for all pastoral action in the Diocese.

Following the Bishop’s address, various participants took turns to present proposals on what should be done at the levels of Small Christian Communities, mission stations, and parishes to strengthen pastoral life and activities at the grassroots. The sessions provided an open and enriching platform for clergy and laity alike to freely express their views and share ideas on how to build a stronger, more vibrant Diocese, especially in anticipation of the forthcoming Diocesan Synod.
Another highlight op today’s meeting was an intervention from a team from Regina pacis Microfinance, a category 2 microfinance owned by the Diocese of Buea ready to serve the Christians and general public

According to the Catholic Church, the Pastoral Week is an annual period dedicated to evaluating diocesan pastoral activities, strengthening communion among God’s people, and planning the mission of the local Church in harmony with the vision of the Universal Church.
The Buea Diocesan Pastoral Week continues with meetings and activities involving priests, religious, and the lay faithful, as the local Church journeys together in communion and mission, in a true spirit of synodality.
