“BISHOP BIBI, EDUCATION IS A BASIC RIGHT AND ESSENTIAL NEED.”

Date: August 25, 2025

In a bid to strengthen the Church’s commitment to education, moral formation, and knowledge acquisition, His Lordship Bishop Michael Bibi, Chief Shepherd of the Diocese of Buea, led a catechetical session at St. Martin de Porres Parish, Bokwango, on Monday, August 25th, 2025. The session centered on the Education Commission, an instrumental part of the Bamenda Provincial Pastoral Plan, highlighting its vital role as the pillar of both society and the Church.

BISHOP BIBI TEACHING CHRISTIANS ABOUT THE EDUCATION COMMISSION

The Doctrinal Session aimed at educating the Christians, and deepening their understanding on the role of the Education Commission. He reiterated that, the Education Commision is pivotal in academic development, intellectual growth and knowledge acquisition in the functioning of the church, institutions and the society. The Bishop underscored that education and literacy is delicate in the functionality of humans, the church, evangelization, society and a nation as a whole. Without literacy, education and scholarly growth, evangelization wouldn’t be possible thus necessitating the prioritization of education and knowledge acquisition in all forms.

CHRISTIANS ATTENDING THE CATECHETICAL SESSION

The chief shepherd highlighted the paramount importance of education, stressing that every child deserves access to quality learning. As a basic right and essential need, education is key to unlocking potential. He encouraged parents, as the first teachers, to champion their children’s right to education, fostering an environment where they can grow intellectually, spiritually, and morally. By doing so, parents can help children build a strong foundation that will guide them throughout their lives.

He further noted that the education commission will comprise priests, parents, and education experts, leveraging their collective expertise to drive educational initiatives. The Lord Bishop also emphasized that the diocese and religious are allowed to own and run schools for proper management and knowledge acquisition.

A serene environment is a necessity to proper knowledge acquisition and intellectual formation in the society.
