The Board of Governors for major seminaries has held its annual meeting, with Bishops reaffirming that the formation of seminarians remains a top priority for the Church.
The meeting was held today, August 20th, 2025, at the Archbishop’s House in Bamenda, within the framework of the 78th Ordinary Meeting of the Bamenda Provincial Episcopal Conference (BAPEC), which runs from August 16th–22nd, 2025.
In their deliberations, the Bishops emphasized that the formation of future priests is “the eye of the Bishop,” noting that if it is neglected, the very mission of the Church risks being weakened.
Discussions focused on the need to adapt priestly formation to contemporary realities while safeguarding the essence of priestly life and vocation. The Bishops stressed that society today presents new challenges cultural shifts, technological changes, and moral uncertainties which seminarians must be adequately prepared to confront.

Formators were urged to remain extra vigilant in guiding candidates for the priesthood, ensuring that their human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral growth is solidly grounded.
The meeting also reviewed progress made in implementing formation programs, while highlighting areas where adaptation is necessary so that priests remain relevant and impactful in their pastoral duties.
Ultimately, the Bishops underscored that the goal of priestly formation is not only to prepare men for ordination but to equip them to positively and spiritually transform the societies in which they will serve.
