Bamenda, August 18th, 2025 – The Bishops of the Bamenda Ecclesiastical Province, together with Education Secretaries and Finance Administrators from the four Dioceses and one Archdiocese that make up the province, are currently holding the Provincial Council of Education in Bamenda. The meeting is taking place within the framework of the Bamenda Provincial Episcopal Conference (BAPEC) which is expected to run from August 16th to 22nd 2025.
During the session, the Bishops and Education Administrators are expected to examine reports on Catholic schools across the Dioceses, identify challenges, and map out strategies for the way forward.
In his opening remarks, the Archbishop of Bamenda, Most Rev. Andrew Nkea, expressed gratitude to the Education Secretaries and Finance Administrators for their dedication and hard work. He congratulated them for the excellent results recorded in Catholic schools across the province during national exams, with many schools attaining a 100% success rate.
“These results are a testimony of your commitment to providing quality and holistic education while promoting the mandate Christ gave us to ‘go and teach all nations,’” Archbishop Nkea said. He reminded the administrators that their mission is primarily pastoral before being administrative: “Anybody can perform administrative functions, but you are more pastoral in executing the mandate of Christ, which is to teach and form.”
The Archbishop further urged the administrators to ensure that no Catholic child passes through their schools without receiving the sacrament of baptism, stressing that Catholic education must remain firmly rooted in faith formation alongside academic excellence.
The Provincial Council of Education continues with deliberations aimed at strengthening Catholic education and enhancing the Church’s mission of holistic formation in the Bamenda Ecclesiastical Province.
