January 20th, 2024 marked the third preparatory meeting of the steering committee overseeing the 75th-anniversary celebration of the Diocese of Buea. Held at the Bishop’s House in Small Soppo, Buea, the meeting was chaired by the organizing committee’s chairperson, Rev Fr Mbi, who also serves as the Vicar General of the Diocese of Buea.
Over the four-hour-long meeting, committee members reviewed the progress made by various subcommittees, including their proposed budgets, and presented proposals for a successful celebration.
During deliberations, Bishop Michael Bibi reminded committee members that 2025 will be a busy year for the Diocese, hosting significant events such as the 48th annual seminar of Bishops of Cameroon, the 75th-anniversary celebration of the Diocese of Buea, and the 25th priestly ordination of Bishop Michael Bibi, among other major Diocesan events.
The Chief Shepherd advised the committee members to prepare for the different activities emphasizing effective planning for successful celebrations. The 75th-anniversary celebration is set to be officially launched on April 8th, 2024, at the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral. Committees in charge of liturgy and the anniversary fabric were tasked with catching up with the deadline.
The souvenir committee was assigned to visit the printing press in Limbe next week to finalize the fabric, expected to be available during the launch. closing the meeting, Rev Fr Mbi expressed gratitude to all members, urging them to continue working tirelessly for the success of the anniversary and related events. The next Steering Committee meeting is scheduled for March 16th, 2024.
