Colour and elation characterized the atmosphere this 9th day of January 2024, as officials led by the Mayor of Maroua Dr. Sali Babani welcomed Prelates to the town of Maroua where the 47th session of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon is taking place.
In a solemn opening ceremony, Bishop Bruno ATEBA Edo, host Bishop, expressed appreciation for the fellowship amongst the Bishops and thanked God for the 50th anniversary of the Diocese celebrated last year 2023.
The president of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon His Grace Andrew Nkea, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Bamenda, in his welcome speech, congratulated Bishop Bruno ATEBA of Maroua for the accomplishment of a modest Cathedral in the diocese and commended him for his vibrant vision for the Diocese. He further sympathized with all the communities in the Far North that suffer from the effects of bokoharam .
He reassured them of the continuous prayers of the Bishops while praying for peace in the country, especially the areas hit by crisis, not leaving out the Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon .
During the event, the people of Maroua displayed a culture of fraternity, bringing everyone together in a spirit of love as a sign of joy having the prelates in their midst.
The presence of the Muslim community led by the Lamido of Maroua; Lamido d’Abdoulaye Yerima Bakary did not go unnoticed as they displayed a show of respect , joy and gratitude to the prelates for their presence amongst them.
The ceremony also witnessed a guided tour to the Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral, a Cathedral built with fine taste , making use of the beauty of local materials of the Far North. This house of God has been put in place for the comfort of the Diocese in glorifying the Lord.
The 4th day of the annual assembly of the Bishops of Cameroon, holding in Maroua-Mokolo, started with morning mass at Saint Augustine Major Seminary of Maroua (GSSAM).
