The major superiors of the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life are charged with the responsibility to listen to their members, ensure that they are nourished with the word of God, and to Console those who are pained. This teaching was delivered by Rev. Fr. MartinNjie Moka while representing the Bishop of Buea during the catechetical session of Monday, June 17, 2024 which took place at St. Martin De Porres Parish Bokwaongo.
The Christians of this community were educated on the roles, responsibilities and the structure of the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life. The Priest highlighted that according to the Code of Canon Law Number 627, superiors must have their own councils in accordance with the constitutions and they must make use of it in the exercise of their office. The council among other things, helps these superiors in the administration of the Institutes and their consent must be sort in the case of the disposition of the common goods of the Institutes, and the absence of a member from the community for a relatively long period.
The finances, it was mentioned, are managed by the finance administrator who must be different from the supreme moderator.
Teaching on the General Chapter, he noted that this is the highest body of any Institute and these members convene after every five years depending on their constitution, to deliberate on issues that concern the wellbeing of the Institute.
Another area that was looked at by Reverend Fr. Martin Njie, is the admission of candidates into the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life. Here, he said that for anyone to become part of this body, the person must be physically and mentally upright.
Concluding his teachings, he indicated that membership can be lost due to the willful withdrawal of a member of by dismissal by the valid authority.
