His Excellency José Avelino Bettencourt, Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, has officially closed the 47th edition of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon NECC, this 13th day of January 2024.
During the Solemn closing mass which took place at the Cathedral of the Our Lady of the Assumption Maroua-Mokolo, His Grace José Avelino Bettencourt, together with all the Bishops of the Nation prayed for Peace and unity in Cameroon and the world at large.
The Apostolic Nuncio expressed gratitude to the prelates for the spirit of love and solidarity amongst them while reassuring the Bishops of his continuous collaboration with all as they foster a synodal church in Cameroon.
He Invited brother prelates and the Christians to emulate the ways of Baba Simon Mpeke who is on the path to sainthood; a devoted priest who listened to all and spread God’s words in his actions.
He further congratulated the Christian population of Maroua- Mokolo for the realization of the magnificent Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral.
, president of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon in his closing words for the 47th annual assembly of the Bishops in Maroua, expressed words of gratitude to the Bishops for a successful meeting and to all Christians for their hospitality. He expressed words of consolation to those who suffer from the violence of bokoharam and called on them to stay firm and confident in God during challenging times.
His Grace Andrew Nkea thanked the Apostolic Nuncio for his special gesture of presenting a
letter of credence to the Bishops of the Episcopal Conference during this closing celebration ; an action which he says is rare to find.
After one week of prayer and deliberations on the growth of the Church guided by the theme “a synodal church on mission,” Archbishop Bruno ATEBA host Bishop of this annual seminar of the Bishops of Cameroon, took time and expressed appreciation to his fellow Bishops for blessing the land of Maroua with their presence and for the spirit of fraternity exhibited throughout this significant gathering aimed at strengthening the faith of
the church and its people.
It should be noted that in 2025, all roads shall lead to the Diocese of Buea which will be hosting the next edition of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon from January 4th to January 11th 2025
