The annual assembly of the Bishops of Cameroon taking place in Maroua, entered day three this 8th day of January, a day when the universal church commemorates the feast of the Baptism of the Lord.
The day set aside for recollection by the Bishops started with morning prayers during which the Bishops convened at the chapel, thanked and worshiped God for his goodness. The prelates thereafter took time off for recollection; a period during which they reflected on their work to shepherd the flocks entrusted in their care.
After moments of recollection, the local ordinaries celebrated holy mass to mark the feast of the Baptism of Christ; (cf. Mk 1.7-11). It occurs at the river Jordan, where John the “Baptist” performed a rite of purification, which expresses the commitment to renounce sin and to convert.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by His Grace Faustin Ambassa, archbishop of the archdiocese of Garoua, who reassured his brother Bishops of God’s presence with them and called on them to exercise perseverance in the midst of all forms of challenges while asking God to give them the graces required in their mission in building a Synodal church .
It should be noted that today Jan. 8th, marks the end of the Christmas period with vespers and Tuesday January 9th, begins the ordinary time of the liturgical year with the first week.
The National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon continues till January 13, 2024
