Bishop Michael Bibi and Meveo Community Strengthen Dialogue on Land Matters, Constitute Joint Committee for Way Forward

In a spirit of unity, peaceful coexistence, and a shared commitment to community development, His Lordship Michael Bibi, Bishop of the Diocese of Buea, on June 10, 2026, met with the Divisional Officer of Buea, Mr. Abba Abdouraman, HRH Chief George Eko of Meveo Village, and community leaders from Meveo at Saint Mary’s Catholic School for a Land Progress Review Meeting between the Catholic Church and the Meveo community.

The meeting followed a consultative session held on May 12, 2026, which sought to clarify existing boundaries, identify areas of possible encroachment, and establish a framework for peaceful and mutually beneficial coexistence. During today’s session, participants received a comprehensive review of the resolutions reached at the May meeting, alongside a detailed presentation of the surveyors’ findings regarding boundaries, bearings, and areas of concern.
The report provided factual updates on the progress made and served as the basis for constructive deliberations among all stakeholders. Following extensive discussions, the parties reached a common understanding on the way forward and agreed on practical measures to foster continued collaboration and harmonious relations.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the establishment of a Joint Land Committee comprising representatives of both the Catholic Church and the Meveo community. The committee has been mandated to oversee future engagements, facilitate continuous dialogue, and work towards mutually acceptable solutions that safeguard the interests of all parties while promoting peace, justice, and sustainable development.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, reflecting the commitment of both the Diocese of Buea and the Meveo community to resolving concerns through dialogue, mutual respect, and a common vision for the well-being of the community.
