Archbishop José Avelino Bettencourt; Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea has joined the Bishops of Cameroon in Maroua today jan.11,2024, for the 47th National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon.
The diplomatic representative of the Holy See shall commune with brother Bishops, as they chat issues relating to the pastoral wellbeing of the church.
Earlier this day, the bishops took off for a pilgrimage at Tokombere on the footsteps of Baba Simon; one of Africa’s most amazing missionaries referred to as Father of the Kirdi. They climbed the hill of Kudumbar and prayed at the place where he built a simple hut of mud bricks among three or four sarés to which he would withdraw to meditate alone.
It is worth noting that the Holy Father on may 20, 2023, authorized the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints to publish some Decrees, including those concerning the recognition of the heroic virtues of the Cameroon diocesan priest Father Simon Mpeke, born around 1906 in Batombé and died on August, 13, 1975 in Édéa.
Baba Simon Mpeke is the first Cameroonian on the path to Sainthood. It is worth mentioning that the Apostolic Nuncio shall preside over the Solemn closing mass of this annual seminar scheduled for Saturday 13th January at the Cathedral of the Our Lady of the Assumption, Maroua.
