“God Calls the Unqualified”: Fr. Martin Njie Speaks on Priestly Formation in Buea

Date: July 14, 2026

In light of helping christians discern their vocations,Rev. Fr. Martin Njie Moka, Cathedral Administrator of Regina Pacis, led a catechetical session on monday July 13th, 2026, at St. Charles Lwanga Parish, Molyko, focused on the promotion and formation of vocations to the priesthood.

Speaking to the faithful, youth, and members of vocation groups, Fr. Njie said no one is inherently qualified or holy enough to answer the call to the priesthood.

“God calls the unqualified and makes them qualified to serve in His vineyard,”he noted. He urged the faithful to pray ceaselessly for vocations and to create an environment that encourages young people to listen to God’s call.

The Cathedral Administrator outlined the four pillars of priestly formation: human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral formation. He explained that each pillar is necessary to prepare a man for service in the Church, and that formation is a lifelong process that requires the support of the entire Christian community.

“The journey to the priesthood is not easy,”Fr. Njie noted. “That is why the faithful must support seminarians and priests with prayer, encouragement, and material assistance.”

He also broadened the conversation beyond the priesthood, reminding the faithful that the Church recognizes different vocations. “The priesthood is not the only vocation, and it is not the only way to serve God. Marriage is also a vocation,”he said. He challenged Christians to view their careers and daily work as a vocation, and to serve selflessly wherever they find themselves.

Fr. Njie’s catechesis comes just days after the diocesan Vocation Camp held from July 7–11, 2026, and at a time when His Lordship Bishop Michael Bibi, Chief Shepherd of the Diocese of Buea, is meeting with seminarians to discuss formation for the priesthood.
