Fr Martin Leads Catechetical Session on the Names and Titles of Jesus at Bokwango
“Who do people say that I am?” (Matthew 16:13). Inspired by this question posed by Jesus Christ to His disciples, Rev. Fr Martin, Private Secretary to the Bishop of Buea, His Lordship Michael Bibi, on Monday, 19 October 2026, led a catechetical session at Saint Martin de Porres Parish, Bokwango, on the topic “The Names and Titles of Jesus, Their Biblical Meanings and Significance.”

Standing in for Bishop Michael Bibi, Rev. Fr Martin reflected on the various names and titles attributed to Jesus Christ in the Bible, explaining their meanings, spiritual significance and the divine power associated with them. The session invited the faithful to deepen their knowledge and understanding of Jesus Christ, appreciate His identity and mission, and strengthen their personal relationship with Him through a better understanding of who He is in the Scriptures.

He further highlighted some of the biblical names and titles of Jesus Christ, including Immanuel, Messiah, Son of Man, King of Kings and Prophet, explaining that each carries a unique meaning and reveals an aspect of His identity, mission and relationship with humanity. He emphasized that understanding these names and titles enables Christians to gain deeper insight into the person of Jesus, recognise His divine nature and saving mission, and appreciate His role in their lives as Lord and Saviour.

Rev. Fr Martin also underscored that, through Baptism, Christians become members of the Body of Christ and share in His threefold mission as Priest, Prophet and King. He explained that this participation calls the faithful to offer their lives to God in holiness and service, proclaim the Gospel through their words and actions, and exercise responsible leadership rooted in love, humility and service to others. He encouraged the faithful to live out these baptismal responsibilities daily, bearing witness to Christ and His teachings in their families, communities and society.
