Bishop Bibi Urges Christians to Embrace Their Missionary Calling and Uphold the Fullness of the Faith
Inspired by Christ’s command to “Go into all the world and proclaim the Good News to all creation” (Mark 16:15), the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese of Buea, His Lordship Michael Bibi, has called on Christians to embrace their missionary responsibility and remain faithful to the fullness of the Catholic faith. The Bishop made this emphasis during a catechetical session at Saint Martin de Porres Parish, Bokwango, on Monday, October 12, 2026, as part of the centenary celebration of World Mission Sunday and a reflection on the message of Pope Leo XIV.

In his catechesis, Bishop Bibi stressed that evangelisation is not the exclusive responsibility of priests, religious or designated church groups, but a mission entrusted to every Christian by virtue of baptism. He explained that the process of evangelisation involves three essential stages: the initial proclamation of the Gospel, catechesis, and the deepening of faith. According to the prelate, these stages are vital for introducing people to Christ, nurturing their understanding of the Christian faith, and fostering sustained spiritual growth. He further noted that evangelisation must extend beyond church premises to families, schools, communities and other places where people gather.

The Bishop also underscored the indispensable role of catechists in transmitting the Christian faith, insisting that catechesis must be sound, effective and firmly rooted in the teachings of the Church. He reminded those entrusted with the responsibility of teaching the faith that they must proclaim the entire deposit of faith without adding to or omitting any part of it. He maintained that fidelity to the Gospel and the established teachings of the Church is essential to ensuring that Christians receive an authentic understanding of the faith and grow in their relationship with Christ.

Furthermore, Bishop Bibi emphasised that the missionary mandate must be expressed not only through words but also through concrete acts of love, charity and service. He noted that the credibility of the Gospel is strengthened when Christians embody its values in their daily lives and demonstrate genuine concern for others. Highlighting the diversity of ministries within the Body of Christ, the prelate explained that although Christians serve in different capacities, they remain united in one mission: to proclaim Christ and lead others towards the inheritance of the Kingdom of God. He therefore called on the faithful to fulfil their missionary calling with love, unity and commitment, allowing their lives to become visible witnesses to the Gospel they profess.
