Understanding the Office of Angels and Archangels, Rev father Martin Njie leads catechesis.
Rev. Fr. Martin Njie Moka today, Monday, September 28, 2026, led a catechetical session at Saint Martin de Porres Parish, Bokwango, on the theme, “Understanding the Office of Angels and Archangels.” The session focused on the Church’s teaching on the existence, nature and mission of angels and archangels, as well as their place within the Christian faith. It also examined the different orders of angels and their significance in the life of the Church, highlighting how an understanding of the angelic world can deepen the faithful’s appreciation of God’s presence, protection and providence.

Explaining the office of angels, Rev. Fr. Martin described them as spiritual beings created by God and endowed with intelligence and free will. He explained that, as messengers and servants of God, angels participate in His plan of salvation and are called to worship and serve Him. Their primary mission, he noted, is therefore one of service and worship of Christ, rather than merely being a subject of fascination or curiosity. He emphasized that a proper understanding of angels and archangels should ultimately lead Christians closer to Christ and strengthen their awareness of God’s presence and action in their lives.

Rev. Fr. Martin further encouraged parents and Christians to consider giving children names associated with angels, saints and other heavenly figures, particularly names with Christian or biblical significance. He also urged the faithful to seek the intercession of the angels in prayer, asking for their assistance as they grow in faith and draw closer to God.
He futher called on Christians to honour the angels by imitating their obedience, humility and spirit of service to God. At the same time, he cautioned against superstition and practices aimed at manipulating, commanding or misusing angels. He reminded the faithful that devotion to angels must always remain rooted in the Christian life of faith and prayer, with Christ at the centre of their worship and relationship with God.
