The Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, His Grace Archbishop Avelino Bettencourt, is currently presiding over the Funeral Mass for the pioneer and Emeritus Bishop of the Diocese of Mamfe, Bishop Francis Teke Lysinge.

The solemn Funeral Mass is taking place today, Thursday, August 13, 2026, at St. Joseph Cathedral in Mamfe, as the Diocese and the wider Catholic community gather to bid a final farewell to the beloved shepherd.

The Bishops of the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda, alongside brother Bishops from across the country, are present to honour the memory of the late Bishop and accompany the Diocese of Mamfe in this moment of mourning and thanksgiving.
Priests and Religious have travelled from far and near to pay homage to a shepherd whose life was dedicated to the service of God and His people. Family members, friends, and the entire Christian community have also gathered in prayer, entrusting his soul to the mercy and love of God.
As the Funeral Mass continues, the Church gives thanks for the gift of Emeritus Bishop Teke Lysinge and commend his soul to the eternal rest of the Good Shepherd whom he faithfully served
