Over 6,000 students from 13 colleges within the Diocese of Buea gathered at the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral, Molyko, on December 29, 2024, to celebrate the World Day of Catholic Schools nder the theme “Proclaim the Good News, I Am With You Always,”.The event marked the first celebration of its kind since the onset of the Anglophone crisis, making it a momentous occasion.

His Lordship Michael Bibi, Bishop of the Diocese of Buea and proprietor of all the schools during the event, lauded Ecobank Cameroon for its steadfast partnership and generous sponsorship of the event. In his homily, Bishop Bibi singled out the bank for its unwavering support in the Diocese’s mission of evangelization and holistic education.

“Ecobank’s decision to sponsor this year’s celebration as main sponsor is a testament to its commitment to our mission of shaping young Cameroonians academically, morally, and spiritually,” the Bishop remarked. He also acknowledged the contributions of Biaka University Institute of Buea and HIBMAT University Institute of Buea, who provided additional sponsorship for the event.
The day-long celebration featured a march past by the students od different schools and the awarding of prizes to individuals and schools who excelled in various months-long competitions leading up to the grand finale. As the main sponsor, Ecobank Cameroon presented numerous awards to outstanding students and institutions, reinforcing its dedication to empowering the youth through education.

Addressing the audience during his homily, Bishop Bibi emphasized the importance of Catholic education as a foundation for moral values and a beacon for societal transformation. He urged students to resist negative influences such as drugs and focus on their studies, reminding them of their role as future leaders and moral compasses of society.
The prelate also expressed heartfelt gratitude to teachers and stakeholders for their sacrifices in nurturing young minds, encouraging them to remain steadfast in their efforts.
