Beautifully dressed to stamp their identity as students of the City of Saints and Scholars, close to 700 freshmen and sophomore students have taken an oath to live by the codes, conducts, and standards set by the Catholic University Institute of Buea throughout their academic journey in this hub of entrepreneurial excellence.
The freshman and sophomore convocation ceremony for the Buea campus students took place at the university auditorium on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
Present at the ceremony was the Chancellor of CUIB His Lordship Michael Bibi, Bishop of Buea who opened the event with the celebration of Holy Mass to officially inaugurate the new academic year 2024/25 and to thank God for the Freshmen and Sophomore students who have taken a commitment to live as professional servant leaders with moral and spiritual values.
The Chancellor urged students while delivering his homily, to be truthful and honest, to resist distractions, and stick to the quest for knowledge in CUIB.
He strongly implored students to stay away from drugs and illicit practices that will interfere with their studies and impair their success.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Bartholomew Anyanwu, President of CUIB, during the second part of the event, which commenced with an academic procession, welcomed these freshmen to CUIB and called on them to develop a strong ethical compass by being descent and virtuous. He challenged his students to cultivate a mindset of continuous growth, embrace challenges, develop self-confidence, and make academic excellence a responsibility.
The ceremony also witnessed an academic discourse by Dr. Barrister Njissic Stephen Njilla Advocate, Notary Public, Development Strategy Consultant at NJILLA Esq & Associates, Cameroon, on the theme “Building a foundation of integrity and ethics as a cornerstone of professional success”. He started off by noting that integrity is abiding by a particular set of morals and principles. He encouraged students to be honest and uncompromising to strong moral values and to do the right things at the right time . He challenged the students to build integrity by telling the truth, taking responsibility for their actions, and avoiding fake lifestyles.
Present at this academic event as a sign of support and fraternity they share, were students of Catholic secondary schools of the Diocese of Buea including CUIB S&A, CKC Tiko, St. Anne’s High School, Limbe, and REPACOL Mutengene, among others.
