As the year draws to an end, youths of the Diocese of Buea gathered at the avenue of Regina Pacis Cathedral Small Soppo to commemorate the 2023 Bishop’s Games/ Youth week celebrations under the theme” surrender to love, igniting faith , hope and community within the youth”.
The four days event which ran from December 27th to 30th brought together over 1,000 youths from the seven deaneries of the diocese who communed in the spirit of prayer and socio-cultural activities.
In an opening mass to grace the event, the Local Ordinary Michael Bibi prayed with the youths, thanking God for the gifts and blessings in the year 2023 while inviting the youthful population to live in unity and communion as they exit the old year to embrace a new year 2024.
It was a moment for the youths to reflect on the year 2023 highlighting moments when they fell short of acting according to the teachings of the Lord and to look for better ways to amend their conducts and be true examples of Christians as Christ teaches.
This come together paved a way for the youths to showcase their talents in different facets as they engaged in activities including bible quizzes which provided an educational and thought-provoking experience for the attendees. The sack race added an element of fun and physical activity to the celebration. Different exhibitions and ballet performances showcased the talents and creativity of the participants, adding a cultural and artistic dimension to the event.
The celebrations recorded traditional displays and dramas by the different deaneries projecting a rich cultural heritage of the participants, adding colour and delight to the event.
The annual festivity also witnessed sporting competitions and choral presentations bringing everyone together in harmony and celebration.
