On February 17, 2025, His Lordship Michael Bibi, the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese of Buea, delivered an insightful catechetical teaching on the 9th Commandment, “You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife,” emphasizing the importance of purity and moral integrity among Christians. Drawing from Exodus 20:17 and the teachings of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC), particularly paragraphs 375 and 405, the Bishop reminded attendees of humanity’s original state of justice and holiness and the subsequent challenge of concupiscence—the inclination toward sin that persists even after baptism.

Christians drilled on 9th commandment
Bishop Bibi highlighted the significance of the 9th Commandment as a warning against sins of the flesh, urging Christians to cultivate purity of heart. He reinforced the necessity for both married couples and unmarried individuals to practice chastity, underscoring that moderation is essential in all aspects of life. This call for temperance aligns with the Cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance, which he referenced from CCC 1089

In his address, the Bishop also called upon parents, teachers, and the broader community to foster a supportive environment that promotes moral values and strengthens the resolve of individuals to live virtuous lives. By working together, families and communities can help one another avoid sin and cultivate a culture of respect and integrity.
This catechetical session at All Saints Parish Mutengene served as a reminder of the ongoing need for personal and communal efforts to uphold the values of the Christian faith, encouraging all participants to engage actively in their spiritual lives and support one another in their moral journeys.
