Over a thousand pupils and students from Tiko Deanery of the Diocese of Buea convened at Christ the King College, Movange, Tiko, for a Confirmation Mass with His Lordship Michael Bibi, Bishop of the Diocese of Buea.
In his homily, the prelate noted that the rite of confirmation constitutes the renewal of baptismal promises, laying of hands, and the anointing with Chrism. Laying of hands, he explained, signifies the claiming of candidates by Christ, a sign of blessings bestowed on the candidates, and also a sign of commissioning the candidates to be witnesses of Jesus Christ. Receiving confirmation he further emphasized, is accepting to be a missionary who must be ready for persecution and rejection but must stand firm in the proclamation of the Gospel.
Making reference to paragraph 1,316 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the local ordinary highlighted that confirmation is one of the seven sacraments of the church, which confirms the grace received at baptism. It strengthens the Christians’ bond with the church and helps them to bear witness to the Christian faith. He further noted that the sacrament of Confirmation is received only once in a lifetime.
Bishop Bibi used this opportunity to express sentiments of thanks to the school administrators, teachers, parents, and guidance for the tireless efforts and sacrifices they make to foster education and faith in these pupils and students. He further invited the congregation to listen to the voice of the Lord which he said is one that invites them to be charitable to those who are in need, to stand by the truth, and to stay away from lies telling.
Speaking on behalf of the Tiko Deanery, Rev. Fr. Armstrong Ndi, saluted the presence of the Bishop while expressing joy for the confirmation of more than 220 candidates of his deanery. He pledged the continuous support of the Tiko deanery towards achieving the vision of the diocese.
The event also witnessed Cathedraticum by the different schools: a collection aimed at supporting the Local ordinary in his works of evangelization.
The confirmation mass took place on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024.
