The masses of Tiko Deanery, have expressed gratitude to God in prayer, songs and dance as they turned out massively to commemorate 75 years of existence of the Diocese of Buea at the level of their deanery. This was on Saturday , January 25, 2025 at the All Saints Parish in Mutengene, where the Christians gathered in communion with their Bishop; His Lordship Michael Bibi, Priests and Religious, to thank God for bringing the Diocese this far.
Prelude to May 7, 2025; a date picked for the peak celebration of the 75th anniversary of canonical erection of the Diocese of Buea, a pontifical High Mass was celebrated by Bishop Michael Bibi to mark the high point of activities marking this celebration in the Tiko Deanery. The three days celebration was was characterized by humanitarian, spiritual and socio cultural activities days before the big celebration including confessions, choir competitions, sensitization match pass among others.
Christians from the eighth parishes of Tiko Deanery, the largest in the Diocese during the Eucharistic celebration, joined Bishop Michael Bibi, Priests and Religious, to thank God for 75 Years of disseminating the good news and to pray for His continuous blessings on the Deanery and the Diocese as it hits this milestone.
Presiding over the Eucharistic celebration, the Local Ordinary expressed gratitude to priests, Religious and Christians for their commendable sacrifices in spreading the Gospel. He called on them to be resilient and to persevere amidst challenges that may come their way as they embrace the work of evangelization . Celebrating within the year of hope, the Local Ordinary invited the Christians to be hopeful of God’s blessings and eternal life. He reminded them that they have the duty to proclaim the word of God in their families and communities not only by words but also by actions.
The chair Mr. Joseph, on behalf of the Christian populace, congratulated the Chief Shepherd for his transformative works in the Diocese and reaffirmed their unwavering support to the Bishop in all his endeavors.
Following the Eucharistic celebration, animations characterized part two of the event during which students and pupils of primary and secondary schools in the Tiko Deanery, and other church groups, thrilled th e atmosphere with exciting performances ranging from singing, to dancing among others.
The one-year long period of celebration will be hosted next by the Muyuka Deanery followed by Buea deanery and will be concluded on May 7, 2025 at the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral in Molyko, Buea.
