Three brothers of the congregation of Brothers of St. Martin of the Diocese of Buea have answered Yes to their vocation to serve God in faithfulness and humility, and to forever embrace the life of Chastity and Poverty . Br. Vincent Fokwen, Br. Nemba Soulivan Besingi and Br. John Tambe made a public commitment according to the catholic canon law Number 654 by which religious profession members assume the observance of the three evangelical counsels by public vow, are concentrated to God through the ministry of the church , and are incorporated into the institute with the rights and duties defined by the law.
This day November 1st 2023, the Local Ordinary of the Diocese of Buea Bishop Michael Miabesue Bibi, while presiding over the Eucharistic celebration marking the final profession of these three brothers of St. Martin of Buea reminded the brothers to emulate the life of their patron Saint, St. Martin the Porres. By virtue of the name of their religious congregation these brothers are automatically called to live a life of poverty and to be true witnesses and true examples of Christ for others to follow. The Chief shepherd told these brothers that their prayer lives must manifest itself in their different services rendered to the church, the people of God and the lay faithful.
Conferring paragraph 2559 of the catechism of the catholic church, Bishop Michael Bibi reminded the brothers of the importance of prayer in their religious life and challenged them to pray always for a brother who doesn’t pray he noted, has nothing to offer to the world. He further urged them to cherish their vocation, have respect for their constitution, and to plan, execute and evaluate their activities in the spirit of togetherness as the church teaches.
The superior general of the Brothers of St Martin of Buea Rev. Br. Boniface Nkafu while making reference to emeritus Bishop Pius Suh Awa of blessed memory who founded the Bothers of St. Martin of Buea in 1985, happily expressed that “it is joyful to witness this Religious congregation grow in spirituality and number and it is worthy to thank God for these brothers who have made their vows to eternal holiness”. He reassured the Bishop of their constant support of his vision for the Diocese.
The final profession was celebrated at St. Joseph Parish Muyuka where the seed of the Brothers of St. Martin De Pores of Buea was planted on November 3rd 1985. The brothers will be celebrating forty years of existence come 2025.
