The Pastoral and Economic Week of the Diocese of Buea officially opened on Monday, January 19th, 2026, with a meeting of the Presbyterium at the Bishop Pius Awa Memorial Pastoral Center. All priests of the diocese of the Diocese of Buea gathered for Day One of the weeklong pastoral exercise, marking a moment of reflection, evaluation, and planning of the Pastoral Life of the Diocese.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the priests to dialogue with their Bishop about the pastoral challenges, achievements, and priorities in the various parishes and services of the Diocese of Buea.
In his opening remarks, the Bishop of Buea, His Lordship Michael Bibi, thanked the priests for their sacrifices and dedication to God’s people. He explained that the meeting of the presbyterium within the context of the Pastoral week, would evaluate the past pastoral year and outline strategies for the new Pastoral year.
Bishop Bibi noted that the theme of the Pastoral Week, “Synodality,” is timely, especially as the diocese prepares for its Diocesan Synod in May 2026. He encouraged reflection on the three pillars of synodality—Communion, Participation, and Mission—as essential guides for pastoral action.
Quoting Pope Francis, the Bishop reminded the priests that “Synodality is not about changing the doctrine of the Church, but about applying the Gospel more effectively to the realities of our time.”
The Pastoral Week according to the Catholic Church is an annual period dedicated to evaluating the pastoral activities, of the Diocese, strengthening communion, and planning the mission of the local Church in line with the vision of the Universal Church.
The Pastoral Week in the Diocese of Buea will continue with meetings and activities involving the priests, the religious and laity, as the local Church journeys together in communion and Mission, in a spirit of Synodality.
