Tuesday March 26th, 2024, bishop Michael Bibi ; Bishop of Buea and his Priests manifested the unity that exists between them as they celebrated the 2024 Chrism Mass at the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral in Molyko- Buea. During the solemn ceremony, the priests renewed their vow of fidelity and loyalty to their bishop while praying for unity in their ministry as they serve the people of God in the Diocese of Buea.
Celebrated every Tuesday of Holy Week each year in the Diocese of Buea, the Chrism Mass aimed at blessing the oil of catechumen used for the sacrament of baptism, the oil of the sick used to anoint the sick, and also to consecrate the chrism oil which is used for the ordination of bishops and to consecrate a church. Bishop Michael Bibi and his priests, prayed over these oils which shall be used for a period of one year throughout the diocese till the next chrism mass which shall be celebrated in 2025.
The prelate reiterated that the use of these oils is solely the responsibility of the priests and bishops and cautioned the Christians not to engage in the use of such oils in anointing themselves
The chief shepherd while expressing thankfulness to his priests for their selfless services rendered to the church and its Christians, encouraged them never to give up amidst challenges. While he recognized the temptations and difficulties that the priests go through on a daily basis, he reminded them that they are a chosen race, and beaconed on them not to relent in their service to the church and to God.
“The church loves you and the church needs you” Bishop Michael Bibi told them and noted that without the priests, there shall be no administration of the sacraments and the life of Christians will be in jeopardy. He went ahead to reassure the priests of his prayers for them and invited them to pray always for God to give them the required graces to serve in their ministry. The bishop also encouraged Christians to pray for their priests and bishop, for unity amongst the Christians, one another and for unity in the church.
During the celebration, the Catedraticum for the year 2024 was conducted; an activity whereby parishes contribute finances to assist the bishop in his works throughout the year. The Christians also offered gifts in kind to the Bishop to assist him in his ministry in the course of the year.
Bishop Michael Bibi, extended words of gratitude to the Priests, the Christian community and the consecrated men and women for their continuous support to the church especially towards the diocesan projects including the pastoral Centre and the Co-Cathedral among others.
