Created in the image and likeness of God, Christians have been reminded that Man and Woman have the same dignity and that lust, masturbation, fornication and rape are sins against chastity. This reminder was made by His Lordship Michael Bibi during his catechetical session this Monday January 13, 2025 at St. Martin De Porres Parish, Bokwango. Concluding his teachings on the 6th commandment, which says “thou shall not commit adultery”, the prelate educated Christians on the love for the husband and the wife and the offenses against the dignity of marriage.
The Local Ordinary noted that through the sacrament of marriage, a man and a woman establish a life partnership which allows them to support each other and which also gives them the opportunity to be blessed with children through procreation. Holy matrimony must be carried out with the consent of both partners for the marriage to be valid and the relationship between the man and the woman in marriage must be guided by conjugal fidelity. He further reiterated that couples should not do anything artificial to prevent procreation but rather, they should follow the natural family planning method of having children or not. Any form of surrogacy and artificial insemination are sins against the 6th commandment and must be discouraged, he said.
Children he further highlighted are gifts from God and should be guided by their parents to live responsibly. Teaching on the offenses against marriage, the Chief Shepherd indicated that adultery, is injustice to marriage which brings injury to the couple. In addition, divorce, polygamy and incest are also grave sins against the 6th commandment.
After making these clarifications to participants, Bishop Michael Bibi challenged couples to be prayerful and disciplined in their relationship and also urged third parties not to do anything that would interfere or destroy marriages.
