Members of the steering committee for the 75th anniversary celebration of the Diocese of Buea convened on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the basement of the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral in Molyko, Buea. The meeting, chaired by the committee’s head, Rev. Fr. Jude Mbi, and attended by the Bishop of Buea, His Lordship Michael Bibi, focused on assessing recent activities and planning the way forward.
In his opening remarks, Rev. Fr. Jude Mbi expressed gratitude to committee members for their dedication and sacrifices thus far. He emphasized that the meeting’s purpose was to address challenges encountered during past activities and devise strategies for improving future events. The committee reviewed various celebrations held across the deaneries, prayer and Action groups, and with teachers, meticulously evaluating their successes and shortcomings.
A key highlight of the session was the presentation of the financial report by the Finance Commission, detailing the funds allocated and used for the anniversary activities. This transparency helped guide discussions on resource allocation for upcoming events, particularly the major celebration slated for May 2024.
Addressing the committee, Bishop Michael Bibi outlined the proposed plans for the National Episcopal Conference (NEC) gathering scheduled for January 2025. The event, which will see all the Bishops in Cameroon assemble in Buea, is a significant milestone for the diocese. The Bishop welcomed proposals from the steering committee members regarding the hosting of this prestigious meeting. He assured the committee that he would deliberate on the suggestions with his board of consultors, and final decisions would be communicated to the NEC.
