
Millions of visitors flock to Assisi annually to experience its majestic basilicas, steeped in history and spirituality. On Sunday, October 26, 2025, a group of devoted pilgrims from Cameroon, six representing the Diocese of Buea, embarked on a profound spiritual journey, beginning their day with heartfelt prayers on their bus as they traveled toward the sacred sites.

Their first stop was the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where the pilgrims marveled at the stunning frescoes and the serene atmosphere that envelops this place devoted to the life of the beloved saint. With each step, they immersed themselves in the rich heritage of faith that defines the essence of Assisi.
While exploring the Basilica of Saint Clare, the pilgrims took a moment to reflect and pray, entrusting their dioceses and the nation of Cameroon into God’s hands.

The group also visited the shrine containing the relics of Saint Francis, Saint Clare, and their early companions. This poignant experience served as a reminder of the profound message of humility and simplicity that these saints embodied. The pilgrims felt a deep connection to their mission of living out the Gospel and were inspired to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, embracing a life of compassion and service to others.
A significant highlight of their spiritual journey was the celebration of Holy Mass at the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels in Assisi, presided over by His Grace Archbishop Joseph Atanga of Bertoua .
As the day concluded, the pilgrims carried with them not only memories of breathtaking sights but also a sense of purpose and a deeper faith, inspiring them to return to Cameroon with the messages of peace, hope, and love they experienced .
