Few months after the inauguration of St Augustine Parish Ikanje- Tiko, happily welcomed the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese of Buea Bishop Michael Bibi who took on a pastoral visit to this community , and communed with the Christians as he celebrated with them, the feast of all Saints.
This Eucharistic celebration held on Sunday the 29th of October 2023, brought joy to parishioners who were called to love God, live holy lives and pursue the one goal and one destination which is the Kingdom of God. Celebrated in remembrance of all the Saints, the Bishop reminded Christians that Saints are those who while on their earthly pilgrimage, lived holy lives and now enjoy the kingdom of heaven. The Christians were told to see suffering as part of Christian life and to follow the footsteps of the Saints who despite persecutions and challenges, remained firmed in their love and trust in God.
Making reference to the catechism of the catholic church paragraph 947, the Christians were called to live in communion with the Saints and the Holy things of the church which are the seven sacraments; the sacrament of Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation, , Reconciliation, Anointing of the sick, Marriage, and the sacrament of Holy Orders.
The pastoral visit presented an opportunity for the parishioners to show appreciation to the Prelate and to their benefactor who through his generous donations have made it possible for the establishment of the St Augustine’s Nursery and Primary School, Boma Street, the presbytery and the uplift of the parish church. The state of the art nursery and primary school is dedicated to Sandy, an American teacher from Cincinnati who passed onto glory few years ago.
His lordship challenged this community to make use of this privilege and to ensure that children are educated with Christ as the foundation of their teaching and learning process.
Rev Fr. Patrick Malange, parish priest of St. Augustine parish, articulated words of gratitude to his Lordship Michael Bibi for the transformative works in the Diocese of Buea and for His special concern for their parish.
