Hosanna Hosanna, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Sunday, March 24, 2024, Christians of Regina Pacis Cathedral Small Soppo, joined their counterparts all over the world to commemorate Palm Sunday; a day meant to celebrate the Christian belief in the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The Christians waved palm branches, singing Hosanna to God in the highest, acknowledging Jesus Christ as the King of Mankind.
Officiating the Eucharistic celebration to mark this day, Bishop Michael Bibi; Bishop of Buea in his homily invited Christians to be committed and to make the necessary sacrifices to commemorate this holy week 2024 which has started with Palm Sunday. He reminded faithful that though Jesus was the son of God, in humility Jesus accepted to die for the sins of mankind and to bring salvation to the world. Thus, he challenged the Christians to emulate the example of Jesus, who served in humility.
He also reiterated that leaders are called to render services to others and to work for the common good. The prelate further invited these Christians to shun pride and every other action that may compromise the virtue of being humble. As Christians began the Holy week, they were reminded to stay focus and discover what God plans for them, for Jesus despite his sufferings, stayed focused on his mission to bring salvation to the world through his death on the cross and resurrection, for this is what His Father wanted him to do.
The palm branches blessed on this day are expected to be taken home in remembrance that Jesus is the king. These palm branches shall be used on Ash Wednesday next year to remind Christians that from dust they were made and to dust they shall return.
The 2024 holy week celebrations shall continue till Holy Saturday and on Easter Sunday, Christians shall celebrate the resurrection of Christ.
