Thursday October 24th, 2024, the Chief Shepherd of Buea Diocese His Lordship Michael Bibi, paid a courtesy visit to St. Joseph Oasis in Tiko, which aims at supporting and empowering vulnerable persons.
Meeting with Rev. Sr. Jacky Atabong, clinical psychologist, nurse and spiritual director, she explained that this program is carried out by the sisters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus to support vulnerable persons, internally displaced women and girls in a bid to make them self-reliant .In helping these groups of persons, the girls are sent back to school and trained on other extracurricular activities and the women are provided with micro finance funds to help them restart their lives .
Rev. Sr. Jacky also added that this program offers psychological support and training to clinical technicians, and helpers. She noted that each Diocese of the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda sends in two candidates who are being trained for a period of six months and then return to their different dioceses to train others.
It is worth mentioning that the St. Joseph Oasis currently houses 20 girls who are benefiting from their services. They also receive clients at St Joseph Oasis and offer them behavioral health therapy.
During the visit, the Bishop of Buea and the Bishop of Mafe who met at the site, prayed and blessed members of St. Joseph Oasis, Tiko.
