In a momentous ceremony today, Bishops from the Bamenda ecclesiastical province joined hands to bless and officially inaugurate the Bishop Pius Awa Memorial Pastoral Center in the heart of the Diocese of Buea.
Led by His Grace Archbishop Nkea, President of the National Episcopal Conference and the Archbishop of Bamenda, the three-story building stood as a testament to both faith and remembrance, marking the 10th anniversary of the passing of the first indigenous Bishop of the Diocese of Buea, Pius Awa, in 2014.
Archbishop Nkea, flanked by esteemed Bishops including Agapitus Enuyehnyoh Nfon of Kumba Diocese, George Nkuo of Kumbo Diocese, Aloysius Fondong Abangalo of Mamfe Diocese, and the host Bishop Michael Miabesue Bibi, offered blessings and called upon the Christians in the Diocese to utilize this beautiful edifice to glorify God and deepen their spiritual journey.
During a captivating homily at the Divine Mercy co-cathedral in Molyko, Archbishop Nkea commended Bishop Bibi for honoring his predecessor by naming what he described as the “best pastoral center in the country” after Bishop Pius Awa. He praised Bishop Bibi’s dedication to ongoing monumental projects in the Diocese and urged him to persevere in the face of detractors.
The newly inaugurated structure boasts 36 rooms, including six VIP rooms, spacious sitting rooms, and a conference/banquet hall. This is the first of five structures that will form the Bishop Pius Awa Memorial Pastoral Centre.
Currently, a 1500-capacity ultra-modern congress hall and a one-story building convent, housing a 150-capacity chapel, are under construction, along with a second three-story building to further enhance the pastoral center.
This development promises comfort and spiritual fulfillment for those who will engage in prayer and various activities within this transformative environment.
