Christians of Holy Trinity Parish, Bota, alongside family, friends, and well-wishers, gathered today, October 12, 2024, in Limbe to celebrate the Ruby Jubilee of Rev. Fr. Joseph Bomnsa, marking his 40 years of faithful service to the church. The milestone was commemorated with a high mass presided over by His Lordship Michael Bibi, Bishop of the Diocese of Buea, who honored the priest for his tireless dedication to God’s work.
During his homily, Bishop Michael Bibi reflected on Fr. Bomnsa’s exemplary journey as a servant of God, lauding him for his unwavering commitment to the church, his obedience to the hierarchy, and his significant contributions to the growth of the Diocese of Buea and the entire Bamenda Ecclesiastical Province. “Today is a day of thanksgiving for Rev. Fr. Bomnsa, who has labored tirelessly in God’s vineyard,” the Bishop stated, urging the faithful to emulate the priest’s spirit of sacrifice and devotion.
The Vicar General of the Diocese of Buea, Rev. Fr. Jude Mbi, also paid tribute to Fr. Bomnsa on behalf of all the priests. He expressed deep gratitude to the guests who traveled across the province to celebrate the Ruby Jubilee, commending the Christians of Holy Trinity Parish for organizing a fitting celebration. “Congratulations to Fr. Joseph, and thank you for your generosity and for allowing yourself to be used by God in service to His people. In the Presbyterium, you are a gem, a special pearl, and our Presbyterium would be incomplete without you,” Fr. Mbi said, calling Fr. Bomnsa a “powerhouse of grace” within the diocese.
In his heartfelt message, Fr. Mbi encouraged Fr. Bomnsa to continue offering his trials and suffering as a sacrifice to God, urging him to persevere in prayer and service. “When suffering comes, it is proof of your faith. Offer every pain as an offering to God, and continue praying for your Bishop and your brother priests.”
Representing the family, Mama Agatha gave an emotional tribute, recalling a touching moment from Fr. Bomnsa’s ordination in 1984. “Mum couldn’t come due to a backache, and this small girl took Fr. to the altar,” she said, speaking of herself, drawing warm applause from the congregation.
Through the Parish Pastoral Council Chairperson, Rev. Fr. Joseph Bomnsa shared the highlights of his priestly journey, which has taken him through several key positions in the Diocese, from Nyandong and Ikassa to Bota, the Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB), and as the spiritual director and rector of St. John Baptist Vianney Spiritual Center. Reflecting on his 40 years of service, he attributed his strength to his daily celebration of the Holy Mass, forgiveness, genuine love, respect, and accountability to his Bishop.
Fr. Bomnsa ended by urging newly ordained priests to be dedicated to the service of the people, emphasizing that a life of service is key to a fulfilling priesthood.
