After concluding teachings on the first three commandments which envelopes man’s responsibility towards God and towards his neighbor, Christians have been enlightened and invited to put into practice the fourth commandment which instructs; “ Honor your mother and your father”. This teaching was carried out by Bishop Michael Bibi during his Monday catechetical session held at St. Martin De Porres Parish, Bokwango on December 2, 2024.
He told participants that Children have the responsibility to honor their parents and that these parents include both the biological parents and anyone who contributes to the wellbeing of the children, However, the Local Ordinary laid emphasis on the fact that honor and respect should be accorded only to practices which are good and not evil.
He further elucidated on marriage noting that marriage is first for the wellbeing of the couples and then for procreation. The family is therefore the domestic church and the first place for the education of the Faith. Parents are responsible in bringing up the children spiritually and morally so that they may grow to be responsible citizens.
He reminded Christians that a family must work together and should show love and respect for one another. In addition, he told faithful that It is the responsibility of the family to cater for their parents, the sick and the old and also to be subtle to the needs of each other.
While parents and children play their roles, the prelate noted that the government also has an obligation towards maintaining an orderly environment through its structures and policies that guide the functioning of families.
The Christians at the end of the session, posed different questions meant to improve on their knowledge of the Gospel.
