In a shocking turn of events, the evening of Tuesday, January 23, 2024, unfolded into chaos as a ghastly motor accident marred the tranquility of the CONGELCAM entrance leading to Bonduma road in Buea. The incident occurred just minutes after 6 pm, catching many residents off guard as they were engrossed in watching the football encounter between Cameroon and the Gambia.
A malfunctioning truck proved to be the catalyst for a devastating chain reaction, colliding with approximately twelve vehicles along the route. The impact led to the destruction of nearby structures and left numerous individuals injured. The Buea General Hospital reported a grim toll, with two recorded deaths and thirteen others (eight women and five men) admitted for treatment. Additional casualties were rushed to various medical units across Buea, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
