The Presbyteral Council of the Diocese of Buea , met this Thursday October 19, 2023 to discuss matters patterning to the welfare of the pastoral life of the local church .
Presiding over the meeting, the Chief Shepherd Michael Bibi, Bishop of the Diocese of Buea, listened to the contributions made by this council of priests selected to assist the local ordinary in an advisory capacity in the governance of the Diocese.
During this meeting which took place in the conference hall of the Bishop’s House, the council of priests had an opportunity to appraise the life of the Diocese for the previous year while making projections for the year 2023/2024.
It should be noted that the 1983 code of canon law mandates the establishment of a presbyteral council in each Diocese. According to the code, the presbyteral council is to aid the Bishop in the governance of the Diocese according to the norm of law, in order that the pastoral welfare of the portion of the people of God entrusted to him may be promoted effectively (c. 495n. 1).
Among other priests present at this meeting were the Deans of the different Deaneries in the Diocese who left fulfilled with the resolutions arrived at in the meeting.
