
On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, members of the Education Council of the Diocese of Buea convened at the Bishop Puis Awa Memorial Pastoral Center to assess the previous academic year’s performance and strategize for the upcoming 2025/2026 school year.
Attendance included Bishop Michael Bibi, Proprietor of all Catholic colleges in the Diocese, Monsignor Jude Mbi, Vicar General, and Fr. Vincent Meseu, the Catholic Education Secretary, along with numerous other stakeholders in Catholic education.
Key discussion points revolved around the social welfare of workers, book distribution in Catholic schools, the introduction of additional vocational training schools, awarding scholarships to deserving students, and the management of school finances, examinations, and results in Catholic colleges.

MEMBERS OF THE EDUCATION COUNCIL STRATEGIZING
During deliberations, council members expressed concerns about corruption and financial mismanagement, highlighting potential threats to the effective functioning of schools within the Diocese. They emphasized the urgent need for transparency in financial operations and commitment to enhancing auditing mechanisms across all diocesan schools.
The Education Council emerged with a comprehensive set of suggestions aimed at improving educational standards, including increasing financial auditing measures, restructuring the Saint John Bosco Teachers Training College, enforcing discipline in schools, and effectively matching teachers to locations where they can have the most impact.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to enhancing educational standards across diocesan schools.
