Celebrating the 2024 World Day of the Sick in the Diocese of Buea, Catholics, and non-Catholic Christians on Friday the 17th of May 2024 convened at Mount Mary Hospital Buea for a Eucharistic celebration officiated by the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese Bishop Michael Bibi, as a sign of love and care for the sick.
Celebrating the Eucharist with the sick, Bishop Michael Bibi prayed that God should restore good health to the patients according to His Will. The prelate further anointed the sick persons with the anointing of the sick, a sacrament of the Catholic Church that celebrates the faith in the healing touch of Christ.
The Chief Custodian urged patients to trust in the healing powers of God, making reference James 5: 13-15 ” Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven”.
The Bishop thanked all the careers, doctors, nurses, and all other medical practitioners at Mount Mary Hospital and beyond who put in tireless efforts to take care of the sick.
Not only did the Chief Shepherd pray with the sick, but he also offered them gifts as they concluded the celebration.
It is worth noting that the World Day of the Sick, celebrated on the 11th of February each year, was introduced by Pope John Paul II as a way for believers to offer prayers for those suffering from illnesses. It recognizes and raises awareness about the importance of providing care and support to individuals who are ill, particularly those facing chronic or severe health challenges.
