Priests, Religious and lay faithful of the diocese of Buea, led by their Chief Shepherd Michael Bibi journeyed to the holy hill of Regina Angelorum parish Bojongo this 9th day of December 2023, where they prayed , asking God for forgiveness of sins and thanking Him for guidance and protection over them throughout the last liturgical year of the church.
Embracing a new liturgical year in the spirit of prayer, the diocese embarked on this advent pilgrimage which started with the stations of the cross during which pilgrims trekked kilometers, praying and singing songs of penance to God.
According to Bishop Michael Bibi, this annual pilgrimage gives an opportunity for Christians to take stock of their spiritual life and make amends in areas where they failed to act according to the teachings of Christ. While celebrating Holy mass, the Bishop invited faithful to take resolutions to stay away from activities that hinder their spiritual life and to ask for graces needed to do what God demands from His people.
Taking place within the advent season; one of love, peace, hope and joy, when the church prepares for the nativity, the prelate called on Christians to be patient and to endure as they await Christ’s second coming. He reassured them of Gods immeasurable love, telling them that God will never abandoned his own in spite of the many challenges prevailing in the world today. During this spiritual journey meant to improve on the spiritual growth of Christians, the Chief Shepherd further called on his flock to encounter God through prayers and to continuously commit themselves to the will of God.
This pilgrimage to the holly land is a significant event also evident in the holy hill which , represents some essential elements of the church. He noted that The first group of 12 stairs of this holy hill represents the 12 apostles, the second group of 10 stairs represents the ten commandments, the third group of seven stairs represents the seven sacraments of the church, the fourth group of 4 stairs represents the four gospels, the fifth group of three stairs represents the blessed trinity while the sixth group of two stairs represents the two parts of the bible- the old and the new testaments.
Gathered at this cradle of belief, the Christians prayed for themselves and their families, trusting that God will answer to their plea. They equally showed gratitude to the Almighty by offering gifts in kind and in cash while singing and dancing with joy.
At the close of this event, the Diocesan Pastoral Council Chairperson Mr. James Vefonge, while thanking the Bishop for this spiritual walk, reassured him of the prayers and support of the lay faithful as he builds the church in the Diocese of Buea.
The Christians in a spirit of love and joy, dispersed in gratitude to God for a spirit filled and successful pilgrimage.
