Choristers from the seven deaneries of the Diocese of Buea, have been encouraged to continue using their talents to the best of their abilities, as they play a significant role in leading the congregation in singing during liturgical celebrations. The chief shepherd of the Diocese; His Lordship Michael Bibi, made this remark during the annual thanksgiving Mass with choristers of the Diocese, which took place at the Divine Mercy Co-cathedral on Saturday August 24th, 2024.
Communing with these choristers, the Local Ordinary lauded the sacrifices made by members in leading the singing during the celebration of Mass, which he noted, goes a long way to help others join in prayers. He encouraged them to remain committed in this unique role for few he noted are chosen for such a task.
While according praises to the choirs of the Diocese, Bishop Bibi reminded the choristers that to sing well, they must practice often and that the purpose of singing is not for a show nor personal gain, but for the glorification of God. The choristers were challenged to live holy lives. “we must sing to be holy. We cannot sing for others to pray well and make heaven, and leave ourselves behind” Bishop Bibi noted.
Speaking at the celebration which took place within the framework of activities marking the 75th anniversary celebration of the erection of the Diocese of Buea, the president of the Buea Diocesan Choir Association ; Dr. Tameh Jude, applauded the efforts of the chief shepherd for standing by the choirs and for bringing them together as one family in Christ. He expressed their joy to be numbered as the only Diocese in the Bamenda Ecclesiastical Province with such an association that fosters unity and love amongst choristers.
The event also witnessed the recognition and handing of certificates to some choristers who took part in the Diocesan music workshop .
During part two of the ceremony, participants were thrilled by different presentations at the Bishop Puis Awa Memorial Pastoral Centre.
